(Added May 24/11) My Mom came back home last fall after rehab from major back surgery. She is a very independent person and lives alone. After dismissing the Home Health care workers, we wanted her to have a way to call for help in case she fell or something else happened. After much searching many reviews (learning which companies are a scam) we settled on VRI. We could buy the equipment at a reasonable cost and pay a reasonable monitoring fee. My Mom grudgingly accepted it, though she felt she didn't need it. A few months later, she had been taking a popular prescription sleeping medicine and slumped down to the floor in the kitchen and could not get up. Of course she was not wearing the VRI pendant. Luckily she could reach her cell phone and called me (I live nearby.) I made her promise to wear the pendant at all times. She said she would. Flash forward a few months and the exact same scenario, only this time I am camping and cannot be reached and she has the pendant. She presses the button, the VRI staff calmly reassure her and get in contact with a neighbor who comes over immediately to help and she is ok. She has since discontinued the use of the prescription sleeping pill... We did have a few bumps in the road at the initial set-up of equipment, but VRI always was happy to replace anything that was balky and was very prompt in shipping everything. The call center staff is always professional and courteous as well as reassuring. If you have a a family member that could benefit from home monitoring, I highly recommend VRI.
